Taura JR station, 1 Chome Tauracho, Yokosuka, Kanagawa 237-0075, Japan

About the event

All those asking for a "real" hike, we heard you! This is a certified leg burner. We will head out right at 9 towards the Plum Grove. There are stairs, steep inclines, and even two rock rope pulls! There are two options for this hike: go to the plum grove then head immediately back to Taura station (about 2 hours) or keep going towards Higashi Zushi and hike through some beautiful bamboo and forest (about 3 hours). I did this hike with my 35 lb toddler on my back and it was a WORKOUT! It is not stroller-friendly and not suitable for younger kids. I don't mean to scare you, just want to give realistic expectations. It is a great hike with wonderful scenery! We can't wait to see you all on the 4th!

14 Vandergrift (Main Base)

About the event

Please join us at 14 Vandergrift (Cherise Menard's House) from 7- 9 p.m. Please feel free to come even if you're a little late or haven't finished (or, ahem, read) the book! We will be wrapping up our meet and greet portion and launching into a discussion of the book starting at 7:30 p.m.  This month we will be reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. We will provide a charcuterie board. Please BYOB!

The summary:  Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?  Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband has left her, and her professional life is going nowhere. Regardless of why Evelyn has selected her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.  Summoned to Evelyn’s luxurious apartment, Monique listens in fascination as the actress tells her story. From making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the ‘80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way, Evelyn unspools a tale of ruthless ambition, unexpected friendship, and great forbidden love. Monique begins to feel a very real connection to the legendary star, but as Evelyn’s story nears its conclusion, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.
