OSAY is a non-profit, social organization open to SOFA-sponsored spouses of active and retired U.S. military officers and DOD civilians (GS-7 and above) residing in the greater Yokosuka area.
Letter from the President
Welcome to OSAY! The 2024-2025 board has been working tirelessly to prepare activities and events for our members! We hope that OSAY is a group where you'll find your people and enjoy connecting with our host culture.
When I agreed to serve as president of OSAY, I had to consider the purpose of an officer spouse association. My short answer is that OSAY without you is just a set of bylaws and documents with a pretty logo. It is you, our OSAY members, who form a resilient, connected group to help each other thrive. We know, and the research supports, that we are happier, healthier, and more resilient, when we have close relationships. When we know that we belong, we tend to be braver, and more fully ourselves. To that end, I would like to share the broader (long version) vision for this year.
I'd like to preserve the values of sharing information, easing the shock of transitions, and finding the positive so we can thrive, not just survive, this life. And I see the value in preserved independence, individuality, nonconformity to the expectations and standards of others. I do hope the common value of choosing to thrive, both for ourselves and for our families (regardless of how those are populated and defined) is supported by a spouse group. Because it’s helped me find my footing. It’s helped me see this life as a game with hard work but also lots of adventure. As spouses, the DOD is (usually!) not our job, but it does influence the life we're building, and OSAY is a resource for builders.
I am so thrilled you're here!
Sincerely,
Treloar Price
2024-2025 President
